In a recent incident, the Oyo State Magistrate Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, remanded skit maker Abdullahi Maruff Adisa, popularly known as Trinityguy, in prison for allegedly sexualizing a minor in a viral skit video. This incident, which caught the attention of the Nigeria Police, highlights the dangerous pranks and inappropriate content being circulated.

SENSES (Child Safeguarding and Protection Principle):

The sexualization of our precious children has become a pressing issue in Nigeria. Apart from the media contents our children are exposed to constitutibg serious Child Sexual Abuse, they also encourages them to engage in sexual perversity. Another issue are the contents children put out on Social Media as children prodigy under the guadiance of their primary and secondary parents. The foregoing including making children to mime and dance to adult musical and related contents, with direct sexual contents and strong sexual innuendo. While we recognize the principle of innocence until proven guilty, this case underscores the urgent need for content creators to refrain from sexualizing children. We commend the police for addressing this matter and emphasize the importance of justice prevailing.

As parents, it is our responsibility to be mindful of the content our children consume. In today’s highly sexualized world, exposure to such content can have detrimental effects on their mental and physiological well-being.
