The Vision Speaks Series: C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N- My Definition (2)

Opening Charge

‘D speaks of delightful. The child is without guile. He is innocent, pure and therefore fun to be with. The child innocence and carriage teach us that we are created with a free spirit, partnered after the image and likeness of the Creator.’

Hello dear friends and fellow custodians. I am glad you are doing well. How do I know you are doing well? I know. Not because I am aware of your state but the ONE, whose I am and whom I serve and who mandates me and gives me grace to be here daily assures me it is well with you.

He did not only assure me that it is well with you He instructs me to tell you that it is well with you. So if the Maker of the heaven and the earth says it is well with you, I think it makes business sense to take that proclamation to the bank and sit on the seat of patience and stretch forth the hands of faith until withdrawals are made. It simply means, the key to our wellness is in our hands.

I began this piece yesterday sharing my personal understanding and perspectives on the word, CHILDREN. I stopped at letter I. Permit me today to begin with letter L. Letter L represents Leadership. Children are not leaders of tomorrow. The child begins to show leadership trait from a very tender age. The truth is, the leadership part of the child’s life is not put on hold when other areas develop. Leadership is responsibility; children begin to take responsibility at very tender age. Parents either snuff out the trait or fan it into blossoming into fruition.

D speaks of delightful. The child is without guile. He is innocent, pure and therefore fun to be with. The child innocence and carriage teach us that we are created with a free spirit, partnered after the image and likeness of the Creator. I make bold to say that the child is so delightful that there is nothing he can do to make an adult angry except that such adult is already angered by other factors. Painfully, a lot of times, what children suffer from adults is simply transferred aggression.

R represents respect. In all that we do, we respect the child and take into cognizance that he is a complete human being, who deserves to be treated with respect. I am of the opinion that when a child is not respected he suffers three devastating consequences. First he does not respect himself; second he does not respect others and lastly he does not demand respect from others.

E means Engage. Erin Gruel submits that we must ‘Engage, Enlighten and Empower’ to get the best out of our children. Custodians of the minds of the child must be conscious of the fact that they have a duty to engage the children under their care. Engaging the child is a time consuming exercise that we should be ready to engage in as we act in the best interest of the child. We must be willing to communicate with our children that they can always share with us, the deepest of their thoughts and feelings and get the support needed.

N stands for Now. I affirm that child’s development is now. It cannot be postponed. Our efforts must therefore be geared towards ensuring that our children receive the NOW attention.

Having finished this exercise, The Vision Speaks Series continues next week with the definition of the word, Rights. If we are to bring to the very first burner of the private and public consciousness the rights of the African child, it is important we define the rights, same way we have defined children so that we can all be on same page. Do have a great weekend and see you on Monday. Have an INSPIRED Day.

The Vision Speaks Series: C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N- My Definition

Opening Charge

‘I sought to understand the child, I am called to defend. I decided to seek this understanding because I discovered that it would be futile for me to defend or care for an entity, whose identity I do not comprehend.’

Dear friends, I am about my business. Yes my business. What is this business? The business of bringing to the very front burner of private and public consciousness, the rights and responsibilities of the African Child for due respect in the best interest of the child.

To ensure that you, who have decided to meet me here daily gets the way my mind is working, I have decided to inspire you with my perspectives on children, which have become the rich pillars of the vision I hold so dear. Today, I am going to begin to share with you what I believe to be the meaning of the CHILDREN.

I sought to understand the child, I am called to defend. I decided to seek this understanding because I discovered that it would be futile for me to defend or care for an entity, whose identity I do not comprehend. Therefore the acronymy you are about to encounter are products of meditation, research and divine revelation. They have helped my perceptions about children and I am persuaded they will help yours.

I also think the acronyms, I am about to share with you also agree with universal but uncommon principles. Here we go, C stands for care. It simply says children are here to be cared for. It follows that for us to care for them; we must learn from them and learn of them. To care for the child in real sense of the word, we must understand that a child has five basic needs, which are someone to believe, something to believe, somewhere to belong, first a family and community, something to become and lastly, the child needs his sense of freedom and responsibility affirmed.

H stands for heritage. This refers to the fact that the greatest legacy any parents or institution can leave for the society is a properly raised child. I share with you Abraham Lincoln’s profound thought that, ‘A child is a person who is going to carry on what you have started. He is going to sit where you’re sitting, and when you’re gone; attend to those things, which are important. You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they are carried out depends on him. He will assume control of your Cities, States, and Nation. He is going to move in and take over your churches, schools, universities and corporations. The fate of humanity is in his hands.’

The alphabet I in the word children stands for individuality. According to Maria Montessori, ‘life does not begin at three or whenever he enters pre-school, nursery class, kindergarten or first grade. Life begins at the moment of conception, and at that moment we were faced with a cell so microscopic that it cannot be seen with the naked eye but which hold within itself all the potentialities of the human being it is to be.’

Join me tomorrow as I continue with letter L. hope you found today inspiring. Do have yourself a dose of INSPIRED day.

The Vision Speaks Series: Childhood: A Child’s Reluctance is not Rebellion

Opening Charge

‘When a child shows reluctance to an instruction, I think the first question, we must ask is, have we as custodians, taken time to explain or teach the child, the best way we can, the values and benefits of the instruction.’

I am with you today with all my heart. It has been more than a pleasure for me to be on this page today. As I will always say, it is a duty. Neccecity is laid upon me. In fact woe unto me if I do not preach the gospel of Child’s Rights Social Empowerment Advocacy.

The last time I was here, I was addressing the fact that childhood is not synonymous with bondage under the Vision Speaks Series. Today, I beg to take the discussion further by saying that the freedom of the child to be a child must not be subdued in the name of training. A child reluntance to an instruction must be viewed and dealt with carefully.

When a child shows reluctance to an instruction, I think the first question, we must ask is, have we as custodians, taken time to explain or teach the child, the best way we can, the values and benefits of the instruction. Please note that when we talk about benefits, we must make it our primary duty to show the child the benefits of the instruction to him or her. That is, what does he/she stand to gain if he/she follows the instruction.

In most cases, custodians are too quick to tell children what they(custodians) stand to lose if the child does not follow their instruction. When this happens, there is a disconect between the child and custodains. The Child feels that he/she is mainly living for the custodian. It is a settled fact that human beings are inherently selfish. Children are not excempted. There is every possibility that they will adhere to an instruction if they can see how it benefits them.

Are we now teaching children to be selfish? Not at all. We are not to stop at telling children the benefits of an instruction to themselves alone but also to the family, school and the nation. We also have a responsibility to teach children to respect the benefits to others enough to follow an instruction. When we do this, we teach the children to be responsible to their fellow human beings, beginning from their parents, siblings, school mates, teachers and others.

One underlining factor in all these is that we must learn to be patient with children, respect their childhood and allow them the freedom that their individuality deserves. In my handbook, ‘Respect for the Right of the Child To Be Heard: 16 Irrefutable Facts You Must Identify, Execute and Uphold,’ I shared how to engage children and help them to speak up for the benefits of themselves and others. I think it is a material you should consciously expose yourself to.

My space is up here today and I have to go. I will continue the Vision Speak Series tomorrow as I begin to share with you who a child really is. Understanding children will help you to give them the best they derserve and help you to do things in the best interest of the child. Do have an INSPIRED Day

Apology

‘To err is human, to forgive is divine,’ says the popular but ever sound truism. I am writing today to express my profound apology for my dear readers for failure to keep my brand promise to be with you every week day. I think twice last week and today, I did not make good this solemn promise.

I can give a million excuses for not keeping the solemn promise, ranging from health, workload, family commitments and all. The truth is that, I will not have one tenable reason for not keeping the promise to be here.

What is an excuse? An excuse is the subjective expalnation you give to yourself or those around you, when you do not live of to expectation. It is subjective because, it is not universal in application. For every excuse you give, life will show you other people, who were in worse situations and still did more than you said you could not do. Reasons are universal. The truth is that the reason why we are not able carry out an obligation will forever be few, if it has to agree with universal principles.

I am not trying to teach dear friends. I am only trying to trip myself bare before you and ask for your forgiveness. I hope I am forgiven. I promise you this will not repeat itself again.

Do have an INSPIRED day.

The Vision Speaks Series: Childhood is not Bondage

Opening Charge
‘…The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world…’
W.B. Yeats
The Second Coming

I listened to an interaction between and father and a three year old this morning and it set me thinking. The father had instructed the son to sit at the back seat of the car. The Child showed some reluntance. The father’s raction was hostile. He sternly warned the child that he would be spanked if he did not obey the instruction.

From my observation of the custodians of children, particulary in this part of the world, a child’s relutance to any form of instruction is met with resistance and possibly punishement. I think primarily because the custodians see the child’s reluntance as disobiedience. It is not part of custodian’s training protocol to understand and address the reasons behind the child’s reluntance.

To compound the issues, the custocians do not take time to explain the values behind their instructions and the benefits, first to the child and second to the family and community.

It is important to note that to instruct the child without due expalnation to the child in accordance to his level of understnading in life is a disrespect for his/her individuality and dignity of human person. The foregoing treatment make the child feel in bondage. And once the child feels that he/she is in bondage, he/she is robbed of the best of his/her childhood.

It is important to note that reluntance from a child doesn’t necesarrily means disobidience as many custodians have concluded. In fact relunctance is not same as disobidience and should not be treated as disobidience. To treat reluntance as disobidience is simply oppressive. Relunctance, may mean a child’s demand for explanation. I do not think that should be ignored.

Friends, the next time your child show relunctance to an instruction, do not be quick to instist on the instruction. Your first interest should be to hear the child out. I will share with you tomorrow, what I believe your response should be to a child’s reluntance. What are the questions we must ask immediately.

I am sure you have been fired up today. See you tomorrow and have an INSPIRED day.

The Vision Speaks (1)

Opening Charge
‘The foundational issue here is that until you have a personal vision for the children, you lead or train, you are not taking them anywhere. Thus a sage once said that the best way to teach a child the way he should go is to go there first.’

Hello dear friends. I woke up this morning INSPIRED and excited about the vision to which I have committed my life in the last 15 years: ‘to bring to the very front burner of private and public consciouness the rights and responsibilities of the African child for due respect in THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD.

I testify today that the vision speaks louder and better than when I first believed it. I give all the glory to God, who has called and who Himself has been faithful in doing it.

It is from the foregoing vision that the CREED of the The TeacherFIRE™ Revolution derived its life and legitimacy. The CREED is ‘to raise a BEST-INTEREST-OF-THE-CHILD-conscious generation of teachers/instructors, who DELIBERATELY combine DIVINE WISDOM, passion, compassion, conviction, and sense of mission to CONNECT with the child’s HEART, thereby IGNITING and NURTURING(through Mentoring, Modelling and Moulding) into MATURITY his/her GOD-endowed HUMAN INGENUITY, the fundamental trait of a COMPLETE CHILD.’

Both the vision and The TeacherFIRE™ Revolution CREED are loaded. For the rest of the week and more, I am going to be dwelling on the vision and I will also elaborate on the CREED. I invite you to be expectant and receive a personal vision for the children under your care.

The foundational issue here is that until you have a personal vision for the children, you lead or train, you are not taking them anywhere. Thus a sage once said that the best way to teach a child the way he should go is to go there first. The question is, how do you go to a place, where you have neither a vision nor direction to the place.

I challenge you today as I ask the question, what your personal vision is for the children under your care. I will be sharing my vision with you in details to encourage you to dream and pursue same.

I am out of here today and I hope you have been INSPIRED by this appetizer to dream for your children. Do have an INSPIRED Day.

Make of Yourself (10)

Opening Charge

‘I am persuaded that I have shared many insights with you in the last few days to make you knock out impossibility for the dictionary of your life. I enjoin you to please go back to the series and also invite your friends to come with you to experience the revolution of limitless creativity.’

It is the first working day of a new week and I am excited to be here with you today, doing FIREWorks. The TeacherFIRE™ Revolution, which CREED the Daily FIREWorks seeks to disseminate is not an idea, though I have once called it an idea. I have once called it a passion, but it is beyond a passion. It is nothing but a Divine Mandate. I am privileged to be the contents steward and lead revolutionary of the Divine Mandate, which seeks to bring to the very front burner of private and public consciousness, the rights and responsibilities of the African Child for due respect.

I will like to round off my discussion on what to make of yourself. I am persuaded that I have shared many insights with you in the last few days to make you knock out impossibility for the dictionary of your life. I enjoin you to please go back to the series and also invite your friends to come with you to experience the revolution of limitless creativity.

For as many as are interested exploring to the fullest, their Human Ingenuity, I encourage you with the words of Mitch Leigh, which talk about the possibility of change for every willing and obedient soul. You may ask, willingness and obedience to what? Yes, willingness and obedience to the God-implanted POWER, who resides in every man made of Him to operate in the limitlessness of his options and capacity to create in the very order of God. Here is the piece:

The Impossible Dream

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause

And I know if I’ll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I’m laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star

If you will follow the principles of Human Ingenuity, which I have taken time to share with you in the last few days, I will like to refer to you as a fellow Lifetime Change Pilgrim.

I am out of here; I hope I have been able to deposit in you enough take off fuel and sustenance lubricant for our journey of change. If I have been able to do the foregoing effectively, then I rejoice. Permit me therefore to leave you with my daily Lifetime Change Pilgrimage confession:

Limitless is my God;
Clear is my vision;
Right is my information;
Complete is my knowledge;
Forward is my movement;
Positive are my thoughts;
Bold are my confessions;
High is my spirit;
Giants are my steps;
Certain is my victory;
Sure is His glory;
Above all, Established is His WILL.
