Opening Charge
‘Please permit me to state that it is only when you accept yourself that you can be at peace with yourself and with others. Many of us seek to be at peace with our pupils, when we are not at peace with ourselves.’
Hello friends. I am excited to share with you this day my story on the first of the six principles to unlocking your password to decoding your identity. I have been sharing on the divine commandment to accept and love yourself that you are and know.
I began to share with you yesterday the story of my childhood abuses and the impact on me thereof before time caught up with us. Since time is always on our neck and rightly so, let me share with you one of my stories in this area.
Please permit me to state that it is only when you accept yourself that you can be at peace with yourself and with others. Many of us seek to be at peace with our pupils, when we are not at peace with ourselves. In that state, we have broken as many peace accords that we have made over the years. In fact we are frustrated and afraid, thinking we are erratic and volatile. One of the ways we know whether we have accepted ourselves or not is our disposition to the features of our physical body. We hate the shape of our noses. Some complain about their legs and other features of their body; some females are not comfortable with the size of the breasts. So they find it difficult to accept themselves as perfectly made by God.
The truth is that there is nothing wrong with the features of your body. They are created to suit the purpose of your assignments on the earth. The Divine Writ says, ‘you are fearfully and wonderfully made.’ I will shed more light on this tomorrow.
By virtue of my upbringing, I suffered from acute lack of esteem. As a result, I used to complain about my body. Today the story is different. I have accepted myself fully. Growing up, I was very rough. As the fruits of my roughness; I ended up having many big scars on my body, particularly on my legs. They are too many to be imagined. Because of this, I could not wait to finish secondary school and stop wearing the pairs of shorts, which was part of our school uniform. It was a major embarrassment for me to show my legs in the public. When I got into the university, I could not wear shorts even in the hostels. I could not go to the beach as I may need to change to shorts.
In 1997, I encountered new knowledge and I decided to love myself as I am. When I went to the Nigerian Law School, I decided to convince myself that I was free. I wore shorts most evenings and even to church on Sundays. Everybody knew me as the guy, who was always in shorts. It did not matter to me what they thought, my freedom to be and love myself was more important to me.
When you accept and fall in love with yourself, then you are in the mode to receive further instructions on your uniqueness. My physical features (head, nose, eyes, lips, breasts, legs and all) are part of your uniqueness. If I do not accept the tangible parts of me, how can I accept the intangible parts?
We have to go. Join me tomorrow as we continue. ‘But to tomorrow is Saturday,’ someone may say. Do not worry, I will be here. This is Daily FIREWorks and not working days FIREWorks.
POINT 2 PONDER:
The truth is that there is nothing wrong with the features of your body. They are created to suit the purpose of your assignments on the earth. The Divine Writ says, ‘you are fearfully and wonderfully made.’ I will shed more light on this tomorrow.
Have an INSPIRED Day.
