Child Protection CREED 13: There is nothing a child would do or omit to do that will qualify him/her for any form of abuse.

A child is not born for abuse. A child is born for tendering. Many people believe that when a child is abused, it is because the child is stubborn. As Olakunle Soriyan has long argued and I verily believe him, ‘there are no stubborn children, only ignorant parents.’ I therefore make bold to submit that there is nothing a child will do to get a custodian angry that he did not learn from the custodians.

Let us now agree without conceding that a child could be stubborn, would abuse be the best response of the parents or the custodians? If a child is stubborn, the response of the parents must not be to complicate the situation through abuse. Abuse does not correct. Abuse dehumanizes. Abuse subdues a child. I beg to submit very strongly that there is nothing a child would do that will justify his being subjected to any form of abuse.
