Domestic and Sexual Violence is are devastating plagues, yet preventable.

The COVID-19 pandemic has escalated the cases of Sexual & Domestic Violence. Dignity of human person has been attacked almost irreparably, homes have become battle grounds and most pathetically, lives have been lost, the peace of many precious children have been irretrievably interrupted, some children have been orphaned and many have their self image battered & their souls banished into the island of frustration and silence.

Yet domestic violence is bigger than Sexual Violence. There are emotional violence, economic violence, physical violence, infidelity violence, custody violence, false imprisonment violence & the rest. Yet none of these violent acts or omissions should be minimised for the other or considered less devastating or in anyway acceptable.

While children, women & men have been discovered to be at the receiving end of Domestic Violence, it is a matter of available statistics globally that women are the most affected.

What are the roles of the African woman in preventing and responding to Domestic Violence? How can the woman be empowered against the dragon of Domestic Violence within & outside the marriage settings and lots more?

Mrs. Lola VIVOR-ADENIYI is the coordinator of the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT). She is a woman who has a heart for the people she speaks for.

I met her close to 10 years and I testify she is a rare gem, committed to public service and cause of humanity.
