The Nigerian military has raided Maiduguri underage brothels at Kasuwan Fara, Shagari low-cost area of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The shutting down of the brothel followed an exclusive report by the Daily Trust on Saturday exposing the illegal activities at the brothels.

SENSES (Child Safeguarding and Protection Principle):

As primary and secondary parents, ensuring the safety and protection of our precious children is a responsibility, we can not take lightly. We must always think ahead, anticipate threats to them, and put in place measures to prevent or mitigate these threats.

It is saddening that people will decide to run a sex brothel using children. In 2022, the Borno state government became the 29th s

State in Nigeria to domesticate the Child Rights Act 2003. However, it is important to ask if the Child Rights Law of Borno State is being implemented?

It is important we note that any form of sexual activity with a child is a crime punishable under the law.

We must emphasize that child safeguarding and protection is everyone’s responsibility. It is important that anyone who sees or suspects that a child is being abused immediately reports to the appropriate authorities immediately.

This is the 21st Century when the nations and continents of the future focus on preparing the their precious children for the future and the future for them, but in Nigeria, the gaint of Africa, we keep 18.5 million of our precious children out of school.

This is the 21st Century, where complexities are intensified and the nations and continents of the future focus on building a world fit for their precious children but in Nigeria, the most populous nation on earth, our precious girl children are betrothed brothels in Borno State and other parts of the nation.

Africa, our precious children behold us today with earnest expectation to build a world fit for them, fit for a glorious legacy.

If we ignore them, we will not be able to behold them in return as our heads will be bowered in shame and we will not be able to behold God, who appointed us caretakers over the collective destinies of these precious souls..

We call on all relevant stakeholders to investigate this case and ensure that the perpetrators of this grievous act are punished in accordance with the law and also ensure that the children receive all forms of support required to recover from the trauma they have been subjected to.
