SENSES (Child Safeguarding and Protection Principle)
Group A strep infection is caused by a bacterium known as Streptococcus pyogenes, also called group A streptococcus.
Streptococcal bacteria are contagious. They can spread through droplets when someone with the infection coughs or sneezes, or through shared food or drinks, close contact with an infected person, and from a wound.
Severe group A strep infections can occur following respiratory illnesses like RSV, the flu, or COVID-19. Parents must take note of the causes to ensure the protection of our precious children.
STONE (Call to action)
• Parents are urged to seek medical attention immediately if they suspect their child has been infected with group A strep infection.
• Parents should ensure that their children stay up to date with flu and chickenpox vaccines because the illnesses can increase the risk of getting infected with group A strep infections.
