“Doomsday Mom” Lori Vallow Daybell was found guilty of killing her children, 7-year-old JJ and 16-year-old Tylee, who disappeared in September 2019 and Six months later, their bodies were found buried on Chad Daybell’s Idaho property. The mother claimed these precious souls were possessed by evil spirit.
What is religious child abuse/maltreatment? Simply put it amounts to abusing our precious children in God’s name, contrary to God’s plan and purpose. According to Child Friendly Faith Project, RCA/M ‘is child abuse or neglect that is enabled by religious beliefs held by perpetrators, victims, and the surrounding community.’
The organization continues, it ‘occurs when children are harmed as a result of religious belief, doctrine, or practice. Examples include using religious messages to terrorize children, refusing to report sexual abuse perpetrated by religious leaders, denying children needed medical care due to beliefs about “faith healing,” and beating children based on particular scriptural interpretations.’
From the Third World to the First World, Religious Child Abuse/Maltreatment is assuming an alarming dimension that must be arrested immediately to ensure the sanity of our precious children and also preserve their lives.
Today, we have primary and secondary parents high on the opiom of religion, truncating the lives and destinies of our precious children.
Where do we go from here?
- Understand RCA/M happens in ‘religious authoritarian cultures.’
- Take time to study the signs of RCA/M, be sensitise to the same and be ready to be a be a whistle blower in your community, nation and continent. If the immediate family members and communities had been more sensitive, there were enough red flags pointing to the fact that JJ and Tylee were not safe and needed to be rescued from their “Doomsday Mom”
- Sensitise your immediate and extended areas of influence about this menace.
