‘My justification for advocating for mainstreaming Child’s Rights Education into the curriculum of Primary and Secondary Schools at the states and federal levels is found in my understanding that one major factor that stands between the Nigerian Child and reaping the benefits of child participation is ignorance’

As a follow up to our last discussion on the rights of the child under the Child’s Rights Act, which ended with participation right of the child, I will like to share with you today the right of the Nigerian Child to Child’s Rights Education.  I will like to affirm that Child’s Rights Education is the most viable platform for the enforcement of the right of the child to participation.

My call today is to the states and federal ministries of education to mainstream Child’s Rights Education into the curriculum of Primary and Secondary Schools in Nigeria. Mainstreaming Child’s Rights Education in the foregoing order means making sure that the issue of children’s participation becomes part of our day-to-day activities of the children and the custodians of their lives.

The objectives of the call on the governments at the States and Federal level to mainstream Child’s Right Education as described above are set out as follows:

  • To call attention to the need to institutionalize the mainstreaming task of child participation in the curriculum of formal education.
  • To establish beyond all doubts that Child’s Rights Education is the lifeline of the child participation.
  • To intimate the listeners with the real issues in child’s participation education.
  • To empower listeners as agents of change in the area of mainstreaming child participation education in important constituencies in Nigeria.

My justification for advocating for mainstreaming Child’s Rights Education into the curriculum of Primary and Secondary Schools at the states and federal levels is found in my understanding that one major factor that stands between the Nigerian Child and reaping the benefits of child participation is ignorance.
